Rural Municipality of West River Received the 2022 Reconciliation Recognition Awards
The Rural Municipality of West River will be one of the recipients of the 2022 Reconciliation Recognition Award (The Epekwitk Assembly of Councils, through L’nuey) for establishing a true path toward reconciliation with the Mi’kmaq particularly in recognition of being the first municipality in PEI to adopt both English and Mi’kmaq names for its electoral boundary wards.
On May 20, Smith-MacPhail and three other non-Indigenous allies received one of four annual Reconciliation Recognition Awards handed out by the Epekwitk Assembly of Councils, which includes Lennox Island and Abegweit First Nations.
